Duplex poem on the duplexity of life

Seeking permanence is seeking control. Say no.
There is no control to be found outside yourself.

If you try to control what is outside yourself
    You will fail.

I failed. Miserably.
Imprisoned in a labyrinth of my own making, I wailed.

The world is a prison of my own making.
Everyone I meet is my jailer- my parents, my friends, my lover.

My jailers can make me deliriously happy.
They can also grab me by the throat and wring out every last tear.

People can make you deliriously happy, people can wring you dry.
But if you realise- what changes isn’t real. You needn’t get on this rollercoaster ride.

Sit with it. Whatever changes isn’t real; become a lotus in a muddy pond.
Your parents, your friends, your lovers are their own people. Let them act as they please.

Let people act as they please, let them come and let them go.
Seeking permanence is seeking control. Say no.
